Advocates are urging burger chain Wendy’s to follow the lead of rival McDonald’s in the phase-out of routine use of antibiotics in its beef supply.
Illinois PIRG Education fund, a public interest group, launched the campaign Thursday in front of a Chicago Wendy’s, and other events were scheduled in cities across the country to draw attention to concerns that overuse of antibiotics in livestock is causing a rise in drug-resistant infections in humans.
