Walmart held a grand opening event today for its new $100 million grocery distribution center here.
Gov. Pat McCrory and local officials attended the event. The center, which employs more than 550 associates, will distribute perishable food to more than 55 Walmart stores in North Carolina and Virginia. It is Walmart’s fourth distribution center in North Carolina.
“We are excited about how this facility will help us serve our customers in North Carolina and Virginia and the economic impact it will have on our state through job creation and future development”, said Phil Ingram, the center’s general manager, in a news release.
There are more than 200 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations in North Carolina.
The Mebane distribution center donated a total of $15,000 to three local nonprofit organizations that support the greater Alamance County area. The Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC, Women’s Resource Center in Alamance County and Victory Junction Gang Camp each received $5,000.
