At least half of holiday shoppers are intending to buy gifts online this year, according to the annual Deloitte holiday survey on consumer spend and trends.
The survey, which polls more than 5,000 U.S consumers, reveals shoppers will spend 47 percent of their holiday budget online, just as the same at brick-and-mortars for the first time in the survey’’s history.
Fewer consumers expect to hit big box retailers, as well as traditional malls. But the hardest hit segment will be independent retailers not located in malls, states the survey.
With regard to mobile purchases, 43 percent of smartphone users expect to make a mobile purchase, an increase of 8 percent from last year.
