Canadian Tire has decided to trash all of its clown-related Halloween decorations amid creepy clown reports across Canada and the United States.

A spokesperson for the retailer confirmed to CP24 that the company made the decision to remove the items from store shelves across the country last week.

Listings for two items previously available for purchase on Canadian Tire’s website— a 24-inch hanging clown and a 48-inch animated rotating clown— have also been removed.

The move comes after Target decided to halt the sale of its clown merchandise earlier this week.

In Canada, many retailers, including Party City and Amazing Party and Costume Store, are still stocking clown costumes and decorations.

Clown pranks have been reported all across the country over the past month and in a news release issued Tuesday, Durham Regional Police said they have been called to 31 clown-related calls since the start of October.

Toronto police also detained two teens in connection with a clown sighting at a downtown elementary school earlier this month.

According to a parent at the school, a teen dressed like a clown brought a number of young students to tears after showing up at Pope Francis Catholic School, located near Ossington Avenue and Dundas Street, on Oct. 5.

Investigators say the 15-year-olds behind the prank were released without being charged.

In a news release issued Tuesday, police in Oshawa said three teens were charged on Friday after allegedly trying to scare members of the public by driving recklessly while wearing clown masks.
